House of the Rising Sun
The NRA suggests that teachers need guns. I think obstetricians should have guns. You never know what comes out of dark places.

Andre Breton
On this blog I have begun to stay away from the rational. I am interrogating Andre Breton in my head. And he hasn't much time left. The surgeon wants him removed.

from hole to hole. Thus is a life.
People are afraid. To speak. Lest they lose their job. Or their future. Free speech. Is restricted to bums and pigeons.

New World. Same old diet.
I lived in a village for four years. Hamme. Belgium. The routine of a small community drove me mad. To the New World.

Victory is...
Obama wins. But what can he do with people who would rather see the ship sink than let the captain get credit for righting it.

The Power of H: A storm is coming
The Power of H: A storm is coming: Everything is a warning. If you're expecting a disaster. I'm expecting Romney to win.

Pair of Faucet
I had an argument this morning with my wife about faucets. I like ornate ones. And she likes them turned off.

Big Bird Plucked
How can Romney threaten to fire Big Bird? He's every child's vision of
the congenial adult. The one to be trust. The gentle and generous adult.
Who only wants the best for everyone... Oh, I get it. It's the
'everyone' that has stuck in Mitt's throat.

Reagan and Treason
I wonder sometimes why President Reagan wasn't charged with treason. On the days coming up to the American election, President Carter was negotiating with Iran for the release of American prisoners. It didn't happen. Until after the election. There were rumors that Mr. Reagan's people had negotiated with Iran to delay the release of those prisoners. They were in cahoots with the enemy. The Iranians had no reason to withhold the release the prisoners. It is thought that they would have preferred that Carter won the election. Reagan was much more hard line and truculent. And yet they did not. There was no investigation of what happened. Why not?

Arab Spring
During the period immediately after the introduction of moveable type there was a great deal of violence, chaos in Europe. With the distribution of books, it was as if a jolt of adrenaline had shook the social order. There was the Peasant's Revolt, the Protestant Revolution etc. The same type of turmoil and violence has run through the middle east. After the introduction of the modern electronic revolution, information has been widely and instantaneously dispersed. Could Arab society be reshaping itself? Into what? It must be remembered that after Gutenberg Europe attained its greatest strength.
